Sexology for the bedroom: 5 interior tips for more sensuality between the sheets

2024-07-15

It’s true that most people traditionally have sex in the bedroom. But unfortunately, that doesn’t automatically mean that this room is very sexy. And that’s not just a shame for interior design reasons – the interior also has a greater influence on the mood in the bedroom than you might think.

Here are five simple decorating tips that are guaranteed to add sex appeal to any bedroom:

1: The Bedroom in General

The most important thing in the bedroom is, of course, the bed. The bed should be able to withstand a lot and preferably not squeak, so that you can really get it on alone or with a partner. The bedding also plays a crucial role as well. After all, nobody likes rough or itchy sheets.

You shouldn’t skimp on pillows in bed either. This is because they can make certain positions even more intense – for example a woman can feel more straight away when her bottom is slightly raised when she’s in the classic missionary position.

2: Music – Yes! Television? No!

Did you know? The way to someone’s heart is definitely through their ears. A sexy sound can spice up lovemaking. A discreet stereo system with hidden speakers can therefore be a real investment for the bedroom. A television, on the other hand, has no place here – it has even been scientifically proven that the good old TV can significantly reduce the frequency of sex.

3: Colours, Light and Scents

Warm colours have a sensual effect and influence the mood in the bedroom. If you don’t feel like painting the walls right away, you can simply decorate the room with bedding and accessories in warm colours. According to a UK study from 2023, people who had a caramel-coloured wall had the most sex. Participants with a wall in this colour had sex three times a week on average.

In addition to the choice of colour, scents and smells also play a key role too. Certain scents and body odours can specifically stimulate our sexual desire. Delicate scents such as jasmine, sandalwood and ylang- ylang are particularly stimulating and increase sexual arousal. Vanilla has a similar effect because its ingredients are similar to our body’s own pheromones.

And you can also achieve a lot with lighting as well – although opinions differ here. Men like to have the lights on during sex, as they are often turned on by visual stimuli. Women, on the other hand, often prefer to have sex in the dark out of fear of supposed flaws. It therefore makes sense to use a warm and not too bright light in the bedroom as a compromise. This will mean that body shapes can be seen but are given a flattering glow.

4: Sensual Furniture and Accessories

Has a boring routine found its way into your bedroom? Then you should choose the right decoration. With a few tricks and cleverly placed pieces of furniture, you can expand your own playground enormously and give your bedroom a fresh touch at the same time.

It can also be quite discreet too – after all, lots of sex furniture and accessories today have a design that is perfectly suitable for everyday use or can at least be easily concealed. For example, a sex swing can simply disappear inside the wardrobe and be replaced by a comfortable hanging chair during the day. Another practical tip: you should invest in a bedside table for toys, lubricant and other things so that you can store everything within easy reach.

5. Inspiration is Everything!

The psychology of living is all the rage and does not stop at the bedroom. Furnishings also say a lot about a person’s personality as well.
